Destiny - The 2nd Coming - February 21, 2009 PDF Print E-mail

What: Destiny - 2nd Coming
When: Saturday, February 21, 2009 - 6pm
Where: Waipahu, Filcom Center

By Marc Yumol - MMA Hawaii Staff Writer

Destiny gave us an action packed fight card that featured devastating knockouts, bone breaking submissions, and of course, a little controversy. Destiny gave us the chance to see the best amateur Oahu fighters against the best fighters the outer islands had to offer. Loud and exuberant fans from all over the state packed the sold out Filcom Center from corner to corner to support this great event.

The title fights lived up to the expectations, with the exception of the 185lb title bout where Alex Pulotu pulled out against 808 Fight Factory’s own Gino Venti. Vernon Perengit (808FF) did battle with Dustin Kimura (Team ICON) for the 145 lb title. After an even first round Dustin slid in a rear naked choke to squeeze the title away from Vernon. Bringing an entourage of around fifty, Keoni Farm(Team 323) entered the cage against Oahu’s own Nate Quinola. Keoni took it to Nate in the first round, taking him to the mat and restricting Nate’s game plan. Nate came out blazing the next two rounds, battering the Maui boy with strikes, earning him the unanimous decision and the 155 lb title. In the only pro-bout, Tim Moon earned him the Knockout of the Night against Brandon Pieper.

Destiny really lived up to its expectation, showcasing the best amateur MMA fighters this great state has to offer. Congratulations to all these warriors who entered the cage tonight to give us a great show. All we can do now is wait for a “third coming” where new fighters will do battle trying to reach their destiny.
